Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke
Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has denied reports that she is seeking asylum in order to avoid being probed for corruption.
Mrs Alison-Madueke said further that she was only outside Nigeria on a short vacation and had no plans to relocate.
The Minister made the clarifications via the Group Public Affairs General Manager of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Ohi Alegbe on Tuesday, April 14, 2015.
“I
want to say that the Minister of Petroleum has never contemplated going
on asylum in any part of the world and has never applied for any,” Alegbe said.
“The
minister has only gone for a short vacation abroad and will soon return
to Nigeria, having no reason to leave her job and country for any other
place,” he added.
Mrs Alison-Madueke spoke
in response to an earlier report by Sahara Reporters which, quoting a
report by the Business Council for Africa (BCA), claimed that the
minister had been denied asylum by six countries.
