A traditional medicine practitioner popularly called 'Babalawo',
Akin Babalola, has been arrested by the Igando Police Division, Lagos,
for allegedly defrauding a 70 year old woman to the tune of N500,000.
The
48 year old suspect who is from Ogun State, however claimed his
innocence and tried to absolve himself of blame by saying the woman
wanted him to do a love charm for her to win back her husband but he
refused to make the potion the potion which he claims could lead to the
death of the woman's estranged husband.
Hear the 'Babalawo':
"The woman came to my house and asked that I prepare a love potion for her to win back her husband.
She
told me that her husband abandoned her for another woman, thereby
saddling her with the responsibility of bringing up their children
alone."
But trouble, however, reared its head
when he refused to prepare the charm and also refused to refund the
money the woman had paid him for the job, threatening to expose the
woman for her evil intent.
Ask why he did not prepare the potion, Babalola said:
"I do not want to incur God’s wrath because the love potion could lead to the man’s death."
He was charged to court by the police on a three count charge bordering of felony, obtaining under false pretence and stealing.
